Heritage Weekend Exhibition

Heritage Exhibition general view towards cupboards
FSCC showed off some of the documents found during the investigation into the history of the building and the surrounding area.

The trustees of Foundry Street Community Centre have been looking into the history of the building, first as a chapel, then as a Council run Community Centre. This has thrown up some information, but not that much, as the chapel seems to have been missed out in alot of history books, etc. We have the early history,  upto around 1932,  but between then and 1972, when it closed, we have nothing.

The exhibition showed off the information and photographs we have found for the chapel along wth photos, informations, stories and census forms for the areas around the chapel of Bogden, West Street and The Nook. We also laid out numerous photographs of events at the chapel in the 1980's in the hope we can identify who the people are in the photos.

The exhibition was open from 10am until 4pm on Saturday & Sunday, 17th & 18th August with several trustees on site to welcome visitors, explain the work and provide refreshments.  Over the two days we had over 80 visitors coming in to have a look round, many having memories of using the centre in their past and they told us many stories to add to our knowledge.

The exhibiton has proved popular with all our visitors, but some were unable to come because of other commitments. Hence we are looking to hold this same exhibiton again in the coming weeks, watch out for details on our Facebook page. Work will continue to collect information on the chapel's history, with a view to having another exhibition possibly next year.
