Anyone with an interest in the centre is welcome to attend, and to hear about what we have been doing and our plans for the coming year. We would particularly welcome anyone who is interested in volunteering or becoming a trustee.

Only full members will be entitled to vote. However, doors will be open from 6.30pm, when you can have a tea or coffee and a chat, and complete a membership application. If you would like to have a say in how the centre is run, please come along.

This Friday 9th January from 1pm to 2:30pm Staying Well Calderdale and Calder & Ryburn Primary Care Network are hosting their grief support session.

The Comfort Room is a safe and understanding space to share, heal and remember.

If you are living with grief, whether recent or long past, you are warmly invited to join a supportive peer group where you can talk, listen or simply be among others who understand.

Open to anyone aged 18 years and over who is experiencing grief.

This Christmas marked a very special milestone, our first festive season with the Chat Lounge, which was formed in January 2025. To celebrate, everyone came together this Monday, 15th December, for a Christmas get-together full of food, laughter and good company.

Following our usual Chat Lounge session and seated exercise, everyone enjoyed a bring-and-share buffet, with a delicious spread including sausage rolls, quiche, Christmas cake, mince pies and more.

Following a conversation at the Great Get Together in Crow Wood Park this summer, the Trustees at Foundry Street Community Centre explored the idea of hosting a market in our hall to give local crafters a space to sell their products. From that simple idea, our Christmas Fayre was born ✨

What a fantastic afternoon at Foundry Street! 

On Friday 21st November, we had the pleasure of welcoming local author Jean Illingworth for a fascinating talk about her time working at Harella in Halifax.

Jean shared a wonderful slideshow of 99 photographs capturing life at Harella throughout the 60s, 70s and 80s, giving us a real glimpse into the past. Nearly 20 people joined us in the Leslie Godfrey Lounge to enjoy the stories, memories, and lively discussion.

Foundry Street Community Centre is hosting new grief support sessions run by Staying Well and Calder and Ryburn PCN.

The Comfort Room will run every second Friday of the month from 1:00pm to 2:30pm. These sessions provide a gentle, structured space for reflection, conversation and emotional support.

Staying Well and Calder and Ryburn PCN will be holding their first Grief Café on 12th December, from 1:00pm to 2:30pm at the centre.

We kicked off September with our Trustee meeting on the 1st and a management meeting on the 15th.

In good news, our old kitchen fridge/freezer has found a new home at Steep Lane Chapel. We love a good reuse story!

Getting Out There!

We’ve booked a table at Elland Hub on 15th October for the PCN team’s Older People’s Event, where we’ll showcase all our brilliant user groups and activities.

We had a fantastic turnout for our recent talk with Julian Carr, author of “The Mills and People of Sowerby Bridge.”

Julian’s slideshow and stories brought local history to life, and the session, lasting just over an hour, was well received by all. It was lovely to see 28 people attend, and many took the opportunity to purchase his books afterwards.
