Jean Illingworth Brings Harella History to Life at Foundry Street

Jean Illingworth

What a fantastic afternoon at Foundry Street!

On Friday 21st November, we had the pleasure of welcoming local author Jean Illingworth for a fascinating talk about her time working at Harella in Halifax.

Jean shared a wonderful slideshow of 99 photographs capturing life at Harella throughout the 60s, 70s and 80s, giving us a real glimpse into the past. Nearly 20 people joined us in the Leslie Godfrey Lounge to enjoy the stories, memories, and lively discussion.

She also brought along several original outfits made during her time there, including pieces she once modelled herself while checking designs! To top it off, Jean had a selection of her four published books available, with many lucky attendees getting theirs personally signed.

This event is part of our ongoing History Talk series, which will now pause for a short festive break. We’ll be back in the new year with a special talk from our very own Sheila Eastwood, who will be sharing the history of Foundry Street.

Keep an eye on our social media for dates and details!
